Help stock shelves at the United Way Trivia Bowl Again!
The United Way for Spoon River Country’s Canton Trivia Bowl is right around the corner. The event is being held at the Canton Elk’s Lodge on Friday June 12th, at 6pm. The United Way is seeking the community’s support in helping fill the food pantry’s shelves.
In an effort to respond to the growing need for non-perishable food items to aid the local food pantry’s, the United Way is asking the community to come together and help stock the shelves. Each team signing up for the trivia bowl is being asked to supply at least two non-perishable food items, per team member, and the United Way is now extending the ask to the community. They will have a donation box set up at the Elk’s Lodge and the United Way office to accept donations.
There are also a couple openings for teams at the trivia bowl, Diana Fuller, executive director urges “Registration has been extended to June 11th, and we would really like to see our goal met. The registration fee is $100 for a team up to 10 people. We want to pack the Elk’s Lodge with trivia bowl teams and non-perishable food items. We are also encouraging the teams from the Lewistown trivia bowl to participate again.” The United Way is asking that community groups, local businesses, or a group of friends put together a team a come to have a great night of fun and laughter!
New to the event is a 50/50 drawing! To help raise more money for the United Way partner agencies, they are now offering a 50/50 drawing at the trivia bowl. At the event you can purchase one raffle ticket for $1, 6 tickets for $5, or an arm length for $10. At the end of the trivia bowl, one winner will be drawn to receive half of all the earnings from the drawing. The other half will go to support the United Way partner agencies, and the programs they provide.
The categories are now being released, and they are as follows: Festivals, Hobbies, Lesser Known Holidays, Movies, Museums, One Hit Wonders, Random, Science, Sitcoms, and Sports. Fuller explains, “The categories we have lined up for the Canton Trivia Bowl are much different than those for the Lewistown Trivia Bowl. We have added more pop culture questions, and tried to diversify the questions. It is anyone’s game; we look forward to welcoming the returning champs and the new teams taking a shot at the title!”
Fuller adds, “With all of the negative economic news and declining donations, this is an easy way to help support the ten partner agencies, which the United Way supports.” Those agencies are, Boy Scouts of America, Catholic Charities, Fulton County Girl Scouts, Fulton-Mason Crisis Service, K.A.R.E., Red Cross, The Salvation Army, YMCA, Youth Acres, and YWCA. Within those ten agencies, the United Way for Spoon River Country helps fund eighteen programs that touch everyone in Fulton County. “
