Welcome to our Website!

A message from our Board President, Leigh Ryan

The United Way for Spoon River Country is excited to bring you our new and enhanced website. This website is here for you to get help, give help and stay informed of the needs of our community. We hope you will visit often and utilize all that the website has to offer. You can also stay connected with us on Facebook.

Education, income and health. At United Way, these are known as ‘the three pillars of advancement’. Remove any one of these from a family or individual, and the road to stability becomes increasingly difficult.

The United Way for Spoon River Country’s mission follows these pillars by organizing and providing human and financial resources that might not otherwise be available. We will provide advancement by our vision to continue to be an available resource in Fulton County providing assistance to our friends and neighbors in need.

Accomplishing these goals is difficult work in challenging times. Only by choosing to LIVE UNITED can we accomplish these goals and create the change we all want to see throughout our community. Together, we can accomplish more than any single group can on its own.

If you are already a donor or volunteer, thank you for being a vital part of the United Way. If not, please read how you can get involved through our fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and how you can LIVE UNITED.

Thank you for visiting unitedwayforspoonrivercountry.org and choosing to LIVE UNITED.

Sincerely,

Leigh D. Ryan

President

5th Annual Day of Action--Sign up to volunteer!!!

5th Annual Day of Action is quickly approaching!!!

Join us on Saturday, June 23rd from 8am until noon, as we come together to help out local agencies that need volunteers to assist with jobs such as, landscaping, painting, organizing, and other fun projects!  In recent years our volunteers have painted the preschool rooms at the YWCA, landscaped at the YMCA, cleared and mulched trails at Youth Acres, helped with outdoor beautification at the Fulton-Mason Crisis Service, and built a ramp at Camp Big Sky...just to name a few!  We have a project just right for you, no matter your skill level!  What is important is giving back to these agencies who serve and protect our neighbors each and every day!  We need your help because we know what a difference volunteers make in our community.  Click here to sign up as a volunteer for this special day!

To “Live United” means that we are willing to be part of something bigger than ourselves. It means that we are willing to invest in our friends, neighbors and community.  Our United Way is a leader in community problem solving and a great mechanism to increase the organized capacity of people to care for one another.  As you know, the needs are greater than ever due to the many challenges we face as a society and our network of 12 partner agencies help to create a tremendous system of health and human services throughout the region.  But, we need your help!

Thanks to your support, help is available in many forms through the United Way for Spoon River Country. In 2011, United Way reached nearly twenty thousand Fulton County residents!  That’s an incredible reach, and it involves twenty local programs.

Your contribution to United Way continues to ensure that: Counseling and shelter is available to victims of domestic and sexual violence. People who have lost their homes to fire are able to buy necessities and start putting their lives back together. Hot meals are available to elderly residents unable to afford their own meals and delivered to those who are homebound.

United Way is also about providing life-changing opportunities, such as: mentors who share their time, experiences and compassion with young people a chance for people with intellectual and physical disabilities to experience athletics and summer camp in safe, fun and supportive environments

Your contribution to United Way is an investment in Fulton County – it stays here to improve lives and strengthen our community. United Way depends on your support!

The United Way has brought together people and resources to build a safety net to help meet the needs of our friends, neighbors, co-workers and families.

A constant reminder that when we as individuals think outside ourselves, we have the power to facilitate change. When we think of others’ lives as linked to our own, our compassion grows. When we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. We build the strength of our neighborhoods. We bolster the health of our communities. And we change the lives of those who walk by us every day.

Farmington Trivia Bowl

The first trivia bowl of 2012 proved to be a huge success!!!  Held on Saturday, February 25th at the Cuba American Legion, with 9 teams competing for the title of "Trivia Bowl Champion."   All teams had a great time and did an outstanding job as their trivia knowledge was tested.  It remained a very tight race with a few tough categories to separate the competition.  However, in the end it came down to the Final Jeopardy question that allowed a team from the middle of the pack to claim a victory!  $1,350 was raised for United Way funded programs and 127 canned food items were donated to the Cuba Food Pantry...overall a fantastic night supporting a wonderful community!
